Two years after the publication of the fourth Italian edition of our Medical Genetics textbook, we have responded to the numerous requests from colleagues and students to produce an English version of the treatise.
The goal is to provide a teaching tool capable of offering basic and up-to-date elements of our discipline, accessible even to students in courses not strictly related to the health professions.
The simple yet rigorous language of this volume, significantly reduced in content and images, provides the necessary tools to understand modern Medical Genetics and its impact on human health.
The genetic revolution has profoundly impacted not only medicine and biology but also social, economic, and cultural disciplines such as psychology, law, archaeology, paleontology, sensor technology, bioinformatics, statistics, and bioeconomics. Therefore, scholars in these fields must integrate fundamental human and medical genetics knowledge into their curricula.
